Diagnostic Ultrasound at Uxbridge Physiotherapy – What are the Benefits?
The use of Diagnostic Ultrasound by our expert Physiotherapist alongside a thorough clinical assessment allows us to uniquely carry out a more Complete Musculoskeletal Assessment. This increases confidence in diagnosis, can help more accurately predict recovery times, and better direct treatment of your problem.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a non-invasive, safe, imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues, muscles, and ligaments and joints. It is a safe and effective way to diagnose a wide range of conditions. Research suggests it can be as accurate as MRI in diagnosing many tendon, ligament and soft tissue injuries (Sconfienza et al., 2018).
Benefits of using Diagnostic Ultrasound
- Good image resolution – often as good as MRI scan imaging for soft tissue injuries.
- Low risk – no radiation
- Cost-effective – cheaper than most other forms of imaging.
- Limited waiting times.
- Results available immediately.
- Can be used for precision guide injection procedures i.e. Ultrasound Guided Injections
- Can perform assessment of the joint in real time whilst moving to give added information.
- Can easily compare the opposite, painfree side to give a good reference point of what your ‘normal tissues’ look like.
- Sequential scanning of injuries. Can be used to monitor injury healing progress.
